About Us


The 2008 Legislature established this task force to develop findings and issue recommendations on innovative ways the state can ensure that Florida government, at all levels, complies with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards.

The Florida Public Task Force on Workplace Safety will address issues including, but not limited to: differences in the workplace safety needs of private-sector employers and public-sector employers; the relationship between federal and state activities related to workplace safety; and the effect of public-sector workplace safety and health on the economic development efforts of the state.

Chair, Florida Public Task Force on Workplace Safety

Secretary, Department of Management Services

 

Linda H. South was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Management Services by Governor Charlie Crist. The Department of Management Services provides administrative support for state agencies and state employees including insurance, human resource management, retirement, real estate development and management, purchasing, vehicle/aircraft services, property surplus and information technology services. The agency “serves those who serve Florida.”

Secretary South has extensive experience creating strategic turnarounds for organizations. She has a unique skill set, having worked in private, public and non-profit sectors. Throughout her career, Secretary South led organizations to improve their ability to serve customers by driving employee performance, developing a mission-driven focus and establishing performance measures that drive customer satisfaction.

Prior to serving as secretary, she was Director for the Agency for Workforce Innovation, the state’s workforce development and early childhood education agency. Before her public service with the workforce development industry, she was President of Pagosa Solutions, Inc., a consulting company with expertise in operations and public policy research in workforce development and board governance. Prior to that she was the Executive Director for the Brevard Workforce Development Board, Inc. and President of Dynamic Works, Institute, Inc. Secretary South launched her career as an investment broker with a major Wall Street firm for five years, and later owned and operated a retail automotive tire and service business and automotive machine shop. Secretary South has built solid relationships with professionals at all levels.

Secretary South earned a bachelor’s degree in Professional Administration from Barry University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. In 2001, she was presented with the prestigious Hammer Award from the National Partnership for Reinventing Government which recognizes government efficiency.

Secretary South is an active member of the Florida Trail Association and an avid scuba diver.

 



Albert Huston, Jr.,
is president of Construction and Craft Workers Local Union No. 1652 of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). He is also president of Southeast Laborers District Council, which has jurisdiction in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. A 43-year member of LIUNA, Mr. Huston served as chairman of its executive board for 32 years. He is a member of South Florida Workforce, former chairman of the Miami-Dade Empowerment Zone, and a three-term member of the Miami-Dade Express Authority.

 

Paul Imbrone is vice-president of External Affairs and Government Advocacy for Macy’s, Florida, working with all levels of government on behalf of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores in Florida and Puerto Rico. He also directs licensed partner businesses, tenant property relations, and restaurant and catering operations at Macy’s. Mr. Imbrone began his retail career in 1976 in Minneapolis with Macy’s (then known as Donaldson’s), taking on a leadership role in Florida in 1981. From 1992 to 2006, he was vice-president of loss prevention, risk management, and communications, with responsibilities for business continuity and emergency operations plans. Mr. Imbrone is heavily involved in his hometown community of Miami-Dade, sitting on the boards of the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, for which he is chair of the Federal Advocacy Committee. He also serves on the statewide board of directors for the Florida Retail Federation.

 

John Kozey is the security/life safety administrator for the Martin County General Services Department. He has 20 years experience in safety, security, and facilities management. As administrator, he manages access/ID control countywide, including physical security, and ensures life safety inspections for county facilities to meet National Fire Protection Association requirements. Mr. Kozey performs site-specific training for county departments, covering security processes and emergency response (fire, bomb, terrorism, severe weather). He oversaw the design and installation of security access systems for Martin County utility plants to meet Homeland Security directives and oversaw enhanced security for county aviation fogging programs. Mr. Kozey administers security operations at the Martin County Airport, working with the airport operations manager, sheriff’s department, and fixed based operators to meet FAA expectations. His career also includes security, custodial, and maintenance operations in medical facilities. Mr. Kozey is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and the American Society for Industrial Security.

Jim Robertson is managing partner for General Crane USA, with offices in Florida, Georgia, and Texas, as well as managing partner for Hunter Crane, Republic Towers, and Hoist and Merchant Transport. With 26 years in the industry, Mr. Robertson is highly active in professional groups. For Associated Builders and Contractors, he has been a national director, Gold Coast Chapter president, and Florida state president. He has also served as president of the Construction Association of South Florida. In 2000 Mr. Robertson cofounded the Florida Crane Owners Council and was chairman for four years. His state legislative efforts include the 2003 Worker’s Compensation Reform Bill and, recently, the Crane Bill. He helped design the core curriculum for crane education in the U.S. As a corporate board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County, Mr. Robertson assisted in forming the Generals Club and Construction Academy School to educate teens about the construction industry.



Hastings Williams, PSM, ASM
, is Assistant Management Improvement Officer for the Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Department. Previously, for the Northeast Florida Safety Council he provided training and instruction to corporate, government, and industry employees and managers in health and safety training. At Edward Waters College, Jacksonville, he was Special Assistant to the President/Legislative Liaison and Acting Vice President of Institutional Advancement. There, he was a member of the management team and increased funding by 150%. Earlier, for 23 years, Mr. Williams worked for the City Of Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Department, rising from Fireman to Division Chief, Director of Emergency Preparedness Division. He managed a three-million dollar operating budget and directed operational planning for responding to man-made and natural disasters. He was responsible for inspecting over 5,000 businesses to ensure compliance with state and local fire codes. Also responsible for EEOC/Recruitment, he increased minority participation by 110% and maintained a retention rate of 99%.
